Veteran Seven Network journalist Chris Bath has made the “tough” decision to quit the station after 20 years to explore a new chapter in her career.
Bath will walk away from reading the news and fronting Seven’s flagship current affairs show Sunday Night at the end of July.
“This has been a very big decision,” Bath said in a statement on Tuesday.
“I’m very grateful for the past wonderful 20 years at Seven,” she said, although didn’t say what she would be doing next.
“It has been a tough decision to leave, but years ago I left a great job in regional television because I didn’t want to say `What if?’ about life, and I feel with all that experience on board now, the time is right again to explore new horizons.”
Seven chairman Kerry Stokes wished Bath well and hinted Bath was heading to a new network.
“Channel Seven will always have a place for Chris, in the meantime however, I wish her every success for the future boss,” Stokes said.
Former Sunrise co-host Melissa Doyle has been appointed to Seven News Sydney’s 6pm bulletin on Fridays and Saturdays, in addition to hosting and reporting duties for Sunday Night.
Doyle took to twitter shortly after Bath’s announcement to pay tribute to her colleague.
“My sincere best wishes to @ChrisBath7 as she starts a new chapter. I have big shoes to fill,” she tweeted.
